The Daily Cut and Thrust / Re: Them there t'other clubs

Our solid revenue generating machine is losing money, out of FFP latitude, and has run the squad down to garbage level.

Those resources have been squandered with the wrong plan, poorly executed.

Maybe. But we're sitting on a couple of 10M assets ready to be cashed in (if reports are to be believed), with a bunch of other players who we have grown from seedlings who have value as both saleable assets and as first team players for us - the performance of the Academies is the difference between d*rby and Forest today, IMO. If they'd been able to sell a Cash and a Burke and an Appiah in the last few years, they probably wouldn't be where they are.

That's pretty disingenuous, or a gross misunderstanding. They built their squad, developed their resources, players and financial, through incremental stages of recruitment, development, sales,   recruitment. Until they were competitive.

They didn't take a big starting pot and go sh!t or bust.

The whole point is to trade well and improve, to the point that you can compete with those with more resources. Unlike the somewhat stupid Forest model, which appears to take better starting resources,  and squander them.

They developed their club until it achieved top flight status.

Sure. But it was a singular model - buy professionals that they identified as being value signings with room to improve, improve them, sell them on to finance more expensive versions of the same model. That's a model with no room for error - when you're dropping 5M on Toney or 6M on Mbuemo or 2.5M on Maupay or 4M on Norgaard or 2.5M on Watkins, you need to be very sure you get them all right. It's to their credit that they did, but if it's your only source of financial and performance growth, you better be sure you get it right.

I'd much rather be Forest.
