He specifically 'unwished' me one for mine. What a c*nt!

No more, and in fact a lot less, than you deserved.

And if LessRed wants a birthday shout he will need to put his birth date in some place where the general public might see it.

We would have known sooner had the scotch back street injury claims 4 U (or somesuch) solicitor not afforded our little Canuckian Ewok a birthday snubbing.

Let's see if any of you fcukers have a heart.  It's my mum's 78th birthday today and what a rotten day she is having.    Her dog of many years died today in the same way her husband Barry did.  Hemorrhaging on the bed.  Absolutely awful.  To compound the misery she just broke her teeth also.  I have absolutely no idea how.  So it's bad enough celebrating a day where I remind her thank you for pushing me out when you didn't want to,  (as In I am her son and eternally grateful) but to have this happen is awful.  So what has she got for company now until she gets a new puppy?  Well nothing because her television just went down to one channel and her freeview seems fcuked.  I want to replace both.  Is there a service that can come and install the television and freeview properly with a purchase and they aren't useless.  This is afterall Kegworth village.  Also,  is there an easy smart TV that will help her navigate the internet without it being difficult for a fogey?

Any help would be appreciated.

Chicago: A little freaked out.

I can drop in and set up her telly and freeview. I can't do an aerial though, if that's the problem.

I couldn't recommend a telly. Most modern ones are okay. I use these for freeview though, very user friendly and update over the internet (and tie in normal mainstream freeview linked streaming services). It doesn't matter what the provider is, the box auto-updates on the basis of isp (so it doesn't have to be BT).

I've got a spare freeview box (bnib as it turns out) which i could go and test her setup with before you buy anything.

I'm assuming she has internet?

There are the Curry's 'Knowhow' people who do that sort of thing but from what I can see they get rather mixed reviews. I don't know if anyone on here has used them, or similar.

If you have some sort of local independent tv/audio specialist they would probably be the people to look for.

She does have internet.  She is going to change the batteries on the freeview box (I must admit I have never seen one so don't know if that could be the problem) and told me that she will get back to me in a couple of days about getting everything up and running.  Her television is archaic so it might be time for an upgrade anyway.   Any help is appreciated.  Being on another continent really can be sh!tty sometimes.

If you want me to, i can perhaps pop over there at the weekend and make an assessment. That might be a better idea than wading in and buying stuff randomly.

If you would like to then much appreciated.  If not then it's not the end of the world as she probably needs a couple of days to get her head straight anyway.  Let me know if you need a number on PM if you decide you have the time.

Thanks.

I think they are in the same category as Halfords 'we fit' youths and 'chefs' in family chain pubs. Your second suggestion of a local tradesman I think would be the best place to start. Or Tricky, who loves to talk TVs.
